Wine Tasters

Wine Tasting is the assessment of wines like sensory examination and evaluation of essentail factors of wine. Wine tasting involves sensing aroma, taste, fragrance, appearance, flavors, mouthfeel, alcoholic strength, acid and general characteristics of the wine. Wine tasting practice has been in existence since ancient days.

Many people do not know the basics of wine tasting before they get into it. People need to know in beforehand what factors they are going to evaluate during beverage tasting. It is simply not ‘WINE TASTING’, but it is the ‘EVALUATION OF WINE’. Like many other art, wines tasting is also a skilled art. Not everyone can do this unless the person has the knowledge of foundation elements of it. The main elements of wine tasting are:

Aroma: How does the wine smell? This matters a lot for every drinker. The wine should have pleasant and appealing smell. Fragrance and taste are main features of wine admiration.

Sweetness: Every wine has its own sweetness. The one which is made of grape fruits are little sweeter than others. A good wine should have decent sweetness level. A professional wine taster can figure out this.

Acidity: Acidity is the most important component of a wine. The too low acidity makes the wine very dull. On the other hand the very high acidity makes the wine sour. A wine taster can easily make out this. Tartaric acid, Malic acid are the two major acids commonly found in wine.

Sourness: As for as possible the sourness attribute should be very minimal, but should not be zero. The most common cause for a sour wine is its acidity.

Fruit Flavor: Almost all alcoholic beverages today have a fruit flavor. Fruit flavor contributes a lot to the taste of the beverage. A mastered wine taster can notice which flavor the wine has.

With the above major 5 elements, wine tasting is almost complete, though not fully. A wine taster must be thorough in these fundamentals. When tasting any alcoholic beverages, it is not swallowed, but spit out usually. It is essential to move the wine around the mouth by swirling it, so that it hits all your taste buds. A taster must have an extensive knowledge about the different wines available and it is considered to be a very sophisticated practice. Though wine tasting is not uncommon in Asian countries, it is more popular in European countries. There will be specially arranged wine tasting parties in some countries. Tasting alcoholic beverages is a special and unique skill that has to be developed gradually. No one can master this art overnight. A lot of patience and perseverance is required to master this art. Some people have accepted this skill as their part time job.
